Ivanhoe seen by Sean

Sean Starowitz took a stroll around Ivanhoe to get a feel for it's landscape, look and feel. Here are some of his images he captured.

Lots of Love, Neighborhood Meeting

Well, it's official.
The Lots of Love Project has taken off with the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council. To give you a bit of background the Lots of Love Project is a pilot project to address vacant lots throughout it's neighborhood. The lots are meant to be repurposed into meet-and-greet lots, play time lots, edible landscapes, gardens, etc. The possibilities are really endless.

Some of the crew that is collaborating with Ivanhoe went and asked the neighbors what they would want from one of these lots. Specifically a "Meet-and-greet" lot. Capital Federal is sponsoring the first lot that is being executed. It will be named the "True Blue Lot".

During the neighborhood meeting (that are held once a month) we got some really great feedback for what the residents of Ivanhoe want. Some of the things that were stated was a place for them to sit and gather to either talk, play dominos, chess, or any board game. Shaded seating area. Edible plants and trees. A path to walk around, and a grill.

The plan right now is to execute two lots. The True Blue lot that will be known as a meet and greet lot, and also a "Let's Play Lot" where kids of all ages can go and feel comfortable and safe to be. Right now our focus is the meet and greet since it is the first one to be opened for the neighbors.

Projected dates are May 2014 for the True Blue Lot and August 2014 for the Let's Play Lot.

Us a group of people are really interested in seeing Ivanhoe thrive and become the neighborhood they want to be. The people involved in this collaboration with Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council are:

Sean Starowitz
Matthew Hayden
Elise Hubbard
Matt Kleinmann
Andrew Lyles
Andrew Pollock
Jessica Rogers

We all come from different backgrounds so it will be an interesting and very collaborative process through out the entire experience.

Looking forward to see where it goes.
